late summer blooms

can artichoke be considered food when its flowering? i wouldn't dare eat them for they are far too beautiful - plus the yummy meaty stuff is all dried up at this point. technically this post should be under another category, yet for novelty sake this is under food.

life update/ excuses, excuses:
i am currently in springfield, il and am about to leave for syracuse. being constantly on the move with spotty wifi plus extensive wedding planning has taken a toll on this blog. i look forward to getting back on a regular schedule soon! whew.

thus far...

in just 2 days we made it to boulder, co from portland. whew. i'll admit - that first 14 hour day in the car was trying, however the scenery was stunning at times. here are my favorite shots taken from the road between.

on the road again

this summer happened faster than any summer i've ever experienced before. is it just me, or does time move exponentially as we get older? all i know is that its time to hit the road once more. tomorrow i am embarking on my 3rd cross country move within one year! yeah, i know, pretty ridiculous - at this point i'm a professional nomad.
portland was an amazing place to live. so much so that its my life goal to move back in a year - for good. i need some more space to fully reflect on my time in portland so i'll just leave it at that.

my posts will be a bit hit or miss the next 2 weeks as i make my way across this vast country via volvo. the main stops will be southern wyoming, boulder, denver, springfield-il, and finally the 'cuse (upstate ny). catch me while you can! oh and check out my video about traveling (below) if you haven't experienced it yet.

root tangle

washed up on the beach in costa rica, i found this giant root structure. a tangle of wood smoothed by sand and waves. it reminds me of a nano-electron photos of a nerve cell. or a dust mite's beard.

weston's cabbage

i'm on a black&white-organic-shapes kick this week. i must give a shout out to edward weston: genius photographer who made mundane-everyday objects like shells, peppers & even cabbage sexy-beautiful.

returning the tomato to the fruit family.

its like biting into the sun when sinking your teeth into these juicy little orange tomatoes. an explosion of tangy-sweet goo slides down your tongue. they have all the flavor of a regular size tomato and then some. small yet mighty says i. sometimes i find myself feeling like a giantess when devouring these sweets.

before spring

sweat trickles down my spine after a walk to the store. its so hot i reminisce for a cooler place. usually i dread that time of year when winter has passed, spring hasn't quite arrived - its unproductively chilly, brown and seemingly dead. but if you look up. at the trees. there is magic. thin branches twisting, intertwining, dancing upwards like veins promising life. the sun tries to warm in a steely sky...
